More urban wildlife

fall-ice.jpgFall continues to march forward (how is that for an oxymoron). With the changing weather we are hosts to some great temporary guests. I can’t imagine what a bird migrating south would be thinking to land in a lake in the middle of the city but land they do. Last week there was a group of approximately 30 Tundra Swans that stopped by for a visit. Yesterday there were Canvasback and Shoveler (aka Spoonbill) ducks on Lake Harriet. They need to hurry, the ice is developing quickly.

drop-off-time-11-29-07.jpgThere were two groups out yesterday. We had 10 dogs in the morning crew and 7 in the afternoon. The afternoon group is shown at left as we dropped off one of the dogs.

68 dog miles yesterday, 40 on Tuesday and 70 during the Thanksgiving day week with over 1,975 since tracking began.
