Flex Leads – A bad idea

I was working with a client in the afternoon and discussing training topics. One of the most important components for a good balanced dog is plenty of exercise. As we were discussing walks she asked my opinion on flex leads, she used a standard fixed length lead and her husband used a flex lead. I don’t like flex leads and don’t recommend that people use them. Used properly, after a handler and their dog have learned good walking skills, they could be a fine tool. However in setting where you may encounter squirrels, bikers, runners, roller bladers, other dogs and distractions they are a serious problem and could injure you, your dog or other people.
